Cutting West Ranch, LLC

Cutting West Ranch, LLC, which is located 4.5 miles west of Dickinson, ND,  was originally purchased by Melissa's parents, Darrell and Rhonda Chruszch in 1994. They tore down the original structures on the 155 acre ranch, and started to build the current ranch from the ground up. In addition to the family home, the ranch features eight pipe and cable corrals, three pastures, a small barn with four stalls, and a lean with eight stalls, as well as an indoor riding arena measuring 80' x 200' and an outdoor riding arena measuring 125' x 250'. The ranch was built with the sport of Cutting in mind as Melissa's parents held numerous North Dakota Cutting Horse Association approved shows at the Ranch. Upon the early passing of both Darrell and Rhonda, Melissa moved home to keep the dream of breeding, raising, riding and showing top quality Cutting Horses alive. Broden and Melissa have now begun to put their own stamp on the place, with lots of changes and upgrades moving forward -- most exciting for them is the new tack room that provides some organization for their tack collection/obsession!

Melissa Chruszch

Melissa has been riding and showing cutting horses with her Father from the age of 12. She learned to cut from a North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame Inductee named Rex Cook. Melissa moved away from Dickinson after graduating from high school to attend the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. She graduated with Bachelor's Degrees in Criminal Justice Studies and Sociology. After Graduation, she moved to Colorado and returned home in the fall of 2010. Since returning to her roots, she has returned to her passion of showing cutting horses. She has decided to venture outside of her comfort zone in North Dakota and Area 6, and show in different locations against bigger fields of horses to get herself more seasoned along with her horses. The challenge and change of pace has truly been wonderful for everyone, as the new locations and faces have been so welcoming and lovely.  She is the 2018 Area 23 $35,000 Non Pro Champion, and proudly displays the NCHA Award Bronze she received for the honor. Melissa is currently employed as a Certified Farm Succession Planner with a locally owned Law Firm in Dickinson, and has been able to maintain her love of the western heritage by assisting farming and ranching families in the area protect and preserve their wealth and legacy.

Broden Porter

Broden is a Solsgirth, MB native who moved to North Dakota to attend college and rodeo at Dickinson State University. During his college rodeo days, he team roped, tie down roped, and steer wrestled. He was the 2004 Great Plains Region All-Around Cowboy as well as Dickinson State University's All-Around Cowboy for the same year. He graduated from Dickinson State with a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Business and Marketing. He currently rodeos in the Badlands Circuit, continuing to Tie Down Rope and Team Rope, and works in the Oilfield as a Operations Management Consultant for a locally owned Water Transfer and Frac Water Heating company. In January of 2016, Broden qualified for the Semi-Finals round of RFD-TV's the American, and traveled to Ft. Worth in February to compete with the best Calf Ropers in the Nation, and for a chance at $1 Million. He's also developed a love for Cutting, and has begun showing as well, and seems to only step into the show pen when it's time to face off against Melissa and win!
